The next big thing to come from Ferrari will be the much-anticipated successor to the Italian firm’s flagship model, the Enzo, which will be revealed before the end of 2012. The news comes straight from the mouth of Ferrar CEO Amedeo Felisa speaking to journalists during the launch of the new 458 Italia Spyder.

Felisa also told British magazine Autocar that the Enzo’s replacement will continue to use a mid-mounted V12 engine and that the company is considering the use of hybrid technology: “Ferrari is testing hybrid prototypes.”

The Ferrari CEO was quick to point out that any hybrid system employed on the firm’s supercars “must focus on improving efficiency and not just be about performance”

However, unlike McLaren and its MP4-12C, the Ferrari executive noted the Italian company will not manufacture regular production models like the 458 with carbon composite materials: “Today it does not make sense,” said Felisa. “The weight benefits compared with an aluminium chassis [like the 458’s] are very small and the costs are huge. In the event of an accident, it is also very difficult to identify whether the chassis has been damaged.”

One of the most unique concept studies to come out of the Pininfarina studio in the 1980s, the Ferrari Pinin, is heading to the auction block. Designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pinifarina and named after the founder of the company, Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, the first-ever Ferrari sedan made its world premiere at the 1980 Turin Motor Show in Italy.

The futuristic design continues inside with a rather minimalistic look for the dashboard and instrument panel. Saddle tan Connolly leather wraps most surfaces, while Pininfarina fitted the car with an array of electronic to controls all the passenger comfort features.

Although the concept was well received by the public, Ferrari never put the Pinin into production. Nevertheless, certain styling cues such as the high belt-line can be found on later models designed by Pinifarina such as the Peugeot 405.

After the Turin presentation, the four-door Ferrari continued its motorshow appearances until 1981 when it was put in storage. The concept later on changed hands when Pininfarina sold it to Jacques Swaters, the head of the Ecurie Francorchamps Belgian racing team and a personal friend of Enzo Ferrari. In 2008, Mr. Swaters sold the Pinin to its current owner at RM’s Ferrari – Leggenda e Passione Auction.

With the help of Mauro Forghieri, a former Ferrari Technical Director, the Pinin was fitted with a 4.9-liter horizontally-opposed 12-cylinder engine with Weber carburetors and a double overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder, rated at 360-horses and sourced from the Ferrari 512 BB.

A specially adapted five-speed gearbox from the Ferrari 400GT transfers power to the rear wheels. Other changes included the strengthening of the chassis, the addition of a fuel tank plus new suspension and brakes.

The 1980 Ferrari Pinin will go under the hammer at the forthcoming RM Auction in London, England on October 26, where it is expected to fetch somewhere between £480,000-£550,000 or about US$742,000 to US$850,000.

There are all the usual features one would expect for this kind of concept: a fighter plane inspired “cockpit”, exposed carbon fibre, an aluminium tubular chassis, a wraparound windscreen and LED taillights.

There are also active aerodynamic elements such as the rear spoiler, front “wings” and air intakes. Exhaust gas is even used to increase downforce.

The boys from IAAD claim their inspiration came from the Ferrari P3 and P4/5. Like many of the design studies we’ve featured on the site, it’s an attractive from some angles but fussy from others.

The Spider features a newly developed, single-piece aluminium hardtop that automatically tucks away just ahead of the engine bay with a tonneau cover that features two buttresses completing the design.

Ferrari says that the aluminium structure offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a faster deployment time of just 14 seconds.

In addition, the company says that the small piece allowed the designers to include “a generous” rear bench for luggage behind the two seats.

The 458 Spider includes an adjustable electric wind stop designed to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, with the Italian company claiming that it enables “normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h (124mph)”.

While the Spider sports the same powertrain as the coupe and which combines a high-revving, 570HP 4.5-liter V8 with a dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission and Ferrari’s E-Diff, the Italian firm’s engineers recalibrated certain features such as its accelerator pedal mapping, the damping of the multilink suspension and the exhaust to improve feel with the top down.

From January 2012, Ferrari owners and their guests (strictly – no interlopers allowed) will get the chance to experience a two-day driving course in Aspen, Colorado. Eight specially prepared examples of the new Ferrari FF will be waiting to show both students and their guests the dynamic abilities of Maranello’s newest V12 GT on even the most treacherous conditions.

Just make sure you already own a Ferrari and have US$11,399 to spend. Ferrari will accommodate participants at the Nell Resort in Aspen where they will enjoy, apart from the two day driving program, champagne receptions and two group lunches at the track. And oh, there’s also a photo package and event memorabilia.

Guests get to pay much less, only US$950, but they won’t be driving the FF and will instead be taken for a ride by a professional driver.

Ferrari’s CEO, Luca di Montezemolo, pulled the wraps off the latest addition to Maranello’s stable, the 458 Spider, at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show. The open-top version of the acclaimed 458 Italia sports an innovative hard-top folding roof that offers better insulation from noise and heat in the cabin and is even 25 kg lighter than a traditional fabric roof.

The opening or closing operation takes just 14 seconds and, when open, the hard top occupies a very small space, leaving room for a storage bench behind the seats. Additionally, when the roof is stored, the rear windscreen rises automatically and acts as an air deflector, reducing buffeting in the cabin.

Naturally, the 458 Italia is, in every other respect, identical to its fixed-roof sibling. It uses the same aluminium chassis and a 570HP 4.5-liter V8 which is coupled to a dual-clutch F1 transmission and provides a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time in less than 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph).

It seems that there is a tune for just about everyone and everything these days, from subtle to extreme, and all points in between. We do not know where exactly this Ferrari 458 Italia  from German tuning firm Graf Weckerle fits in that spectrum, but those odd-looking alloy wheels are sure to catch the attention of every passerby.

Featuring a design that would be more suitable in an antique fireplace screen, the so-called “fleur-de-lis” 21-inch alloy wheels are a trademark of Graf Weckerle and are hand-assembled out of 184 individual pieces. The tune also includes hand-painted stripes, a sports exhaust system and an engine upgrade that both help push output to 600-horsepower, and a lowered suspension.

Indian Market The first ever Ferrari dealership in India opened its doors today in the heart of New Delhi. The Grand Opening, which was hosted by Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari Commercial and Marketing Director Enrico Galliera, and Ashish Chordia, Chairman of the Shreyans Group, the official Ferrari importer for India, was devoted to the members of the local and international press. India is the 58th country where Ferrari is present in the world.

The Italian company will offer its full range of cars including the California, 458 Italia, 599 GTB Fiorano and the latest FF. The most affordable model is the Ferrari California, priced from 22 million rupees, which is equal to US$485,300 or €354,000, while the most expensive, the new FF that carries a 34.1 million rupee (US$752,000 or €535,000) price tag.

Our objective was to launch the  in 2011 and it ‘s a pleasure to inaugurate this first dealership here today,” said Ferrari boss, Amedeo Felisa. “We feel that this is the right moment, considering the dynamism of the country and its economy. Here in India you feel great enthusiasm and a strong connection to the Ferrari brand, which, even before officially entering India, had already around 50 clients in the country.”

The Italian supercar maker is planning to open more dealerships throughout the country in the next three years.

Ferrari is once again showing off its coach-building capabilities with the release of its latest one-off special, the Superamerica 45, which will make its first public outing at this weekend’s Villa d’Este Concours d’Eleganza in Italy. It was built to order for New York billionaire, collector and former owner of the New York Post, Peter Kalikow, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of his Ferrari purchase in 1961.

Even though it was originally believed that the Superamerica would be designed by Pininfarina, the styling is the work of Ferrari Design with the engineering and manufacturing taking place in-house.

The Superamerica 45 is based on the Ferrari 599 and is distinguished by the custom bodywork and a rotating carbon-fiber roof. The latter incorporates a rear screen and works in a similar fashion to the one found in the older 575 Superamerica. Ferrari recently showed a limited edition drop top variant of the 599 called the Aperta, but this model featured a far more simple soft-top cover.

Other custom details include the double air vents on the front wing, a specific chromed front grille and burnished aluminium A-pillars, wing mirrors and door handles. The one-off Italian supercar is finished in an exclusive Blu Antille shade that matches the color of Kalikow’s 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica cabriolet nr. 2331SA. The vehicle’s alloy wheels are colored in the same hue while the roof and other carbon-fiber elements such as the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser are executed in a darker blue shade.
